GRAPHIC PRODUCTS

Hope that this helps students’ and parents’ with the course. The planning this year has been very tight and we will all need to work very hard to keep on track.

You must be self disciplined and organised to succeed.

Outline of dates and titles of work needed to complete coursework.

All work should be completed – you will need to prepare for some sections – treat as homework. ICT is available in my room and also please NOTE :- ICT rooms are available every lunchtime to progress your folio work. The ICT department also provides access to computers Monday to Thursday evenings.  There will be no excuses entertained for not having the ICT components completed.

I will be available certain evenings to assist in explaining areas of difficulty – see below.

Good luck

BEGIN MAKING CAR AN STAND

Before we do this we need to plan the making sequence. This is really important and should include details of tools and processes used. A cartoon type flow diagram is one approach. A time planning sheet is another. All stages need an estimate of time adding.

The stages need to highlight safety issues also.

INCLUDE reference to checking your work as it progresses

OR, you could simply cut and paste and create a folded A3 sheet ( 4 sides of A4 ). Benefit of this is that it can include colour.

48

Use Publisher to create BROCHURE – see wall display. We will design it to fit on to an A4 page – so it will come out as A6 which is too small so we will enlarge to fit an A3 sheet, so that we will have an A5 brochure when it is folded up.

QUALITY ASSURANCE covers every aspect of product manufacture from raw materials through to packaging. One important aspect of quality assurance during manufacture is ensuring accuracy and consistency. In the graphics industry, for example, we could be primarily concerned with producing high quality printing. We would ensure that our raw paper came from reputable and reliable suppliers; our printing inks were manufactured to the appropriate standards, our machinery was well maintained in order to produce the best quality print, and most importantly, that we kept records of everything that came in, came out, went wrong, was returned etc. In other words, we need a SYSTEM which covers absolutely everything to do with our printing business.

QUALITY CONTROL is the actual process of examining and testing your product during key stages in its manufacture. In printing, samples of printed pages will be taken at random and examined carefully for colour balance (too much of one colour), colour registration (for multi-colour printing) and any defects/bits of dirt on the printing plates. Should anything be found, the production process is either adjusted "on the fly" if it is only a small adjustment, or the process is halted and the problem is fixed before starting up again. In this way, there is less risk of having dissatisfied customers as a result of faults/mistakes going unnoticed during production.
