THE 3 UNIT EXAMINATION INDICATED BY YELLOW

BACKGROUND AND IN CAPITALS.

AND

MR. GEEKIE 2 PROJECTS – ALL FOR UNIT 2.

BOTH BHS AND BGS WILL DELIVER UNIT 1.

THIS APART THE TIMETABLE IS COMMON FOR BOTH SITES.

 

PLEASE REMEMBER WE ARE ON A 5 PERIOD DAY – LESSONS ARE SHORTER

AND THEREFORE MORE INTENSE.WE WILL NEED TO

COVER THE UNIT 2 PART OF THE SYLLABUS

WITHIN THE TIME ALLOCATED FOR PRACTICAL WORK

 

Mr. GEEKIE WILL CREATE A TUTORIAL PROGRAMME

WHICH WILL BE ESSENTIAL TO ENSURE SATISFACTORY

PROGRESS, ASSUMING STUDY PERIODS COINCIDE

THESE PERIODS WILL BE IN THE SCHOOL LIBRARY.

 

STUDENTS WILL SIGN A CONTRACT

 

I hope that this helps students’ and parents’ with this fantastic course.

The planning this year has been very tight and we all need to

work very hard to keep on track.

You must be

to succeed.

 

Outline of dates and titles of work needed to complete coursework.

All work should be completed – no excuses please.

Students will need to prepare for some sections – treat as homework.

 

ICT is available in several areas around the school including my room ( T2 )

The ICT department also provides access to computers Monday to Thursday evenings.

There will be no excuses entertained for not having the ICT components completed.

I will be available certain evenings to assist in

explaining areas of difficulty – see below.

First week back and getting ready for the first year

THESE CHANGES HAPPENED AFTER OUR OPEN NIGHT AND OUR INDUCTION – I APOLOGISE FOR THIS BUT I AM SURE WE CAN CONTINUE TO OBTAIN HIGH GRADES. THE CHANGES WILL MEAN WE ALL NEED TO BE VERY DILIGENT RIGHT FROM THE START.

 

Equipment needs ( get these if you have not already )

Get watercolour A3 pad ( 200 gsm min please )

A5 PLAIN PAPER NOTEBOOK.

Watercolour set – can be quite basic.

Brush – large NOT hog hair try squirrel or synthetic ( does’nt hold water well ) No 6

Good pencils HB will do ( try a propelling pencil 0.5mm dia – from Adams in Beverley )

Good rubber.

Ruler.

A digital camera or a phone camera will be very helpful especially in year 2.

DEVELOPMENT OF A DESIGN PROPOSAL BIG SECTION 23 MARKs

 

Start to produce design sketches, ORTHOGRAPHIC drawing, some sort of 3D drawing ISOMETRIC, again try to make the pages colourful and, of course, BUSY. By this I mean you must not have lots of spaces on the paper. DID you use MOCK-UPS or MODELS ?– this could be important. Get photographic evidence for your folio.HOW would your design be made?  Give some account of how it could be made in industry. Think about Materials – try to give a reason for using a particular material.

This section talks about a VERY DETAILED PLAN for ALL the stages of designing and making. YOU must try to recall ALL the problems you have had with the making of the object.  If you used dowels anywhere record problems you encountered and HOW you SOLVED them.  This indicates your ability to ADAPT, we need evidence.  Which tools were used? Which machines were used?DID YOU INFACT, alter your DESIGN?  Did it need modifying? IF you changed ANYTHING - record it, explain why you changed it.Throughout all this try to USE ILLUSTRATIONS to reinforce your comments.QUALITY CONTROL is a bit of a BUZZWORD.

SECTION 5 – EVALUATION Possibly 3 pages. Obviously you need to record how you checked and tested your designs as you made them. DID THE DESIGN work? What did others think? Record all the views of the rest of the group. We can all help each other here. Could you IMPROVE your design? If so spend a little time explaining this - HOW- COST implications etc. How would it be made in industry?
